Jamiquette

A guide for good jam etiquette.

Vibe
Always be positive – The goal is maximum fun for everyone.
Never be negative – No matter what mistakes you think you made, please don’t ever say “dammit” or be self-critical. That brings everyone else down and spoils our enjoyment of all the good things that happened.

01.

Generosity

There will be musicians of various experience levels. All equally welcome, and entitled to try soloing, singing, etc. Job of other performers to support them.

02.

Awareness

Look around – The best moments happen when musical connections are made. Make eye contact, watch body language and listen to what the others are doing.

Notes for Guitarists

1-

There should rarely be more than two guitarists on stage at a time.

2-

Find your own space – Don’t do what the other guy is doing. If he’s playing open chords, you can play inversions, single notes, substitutions, etc.

3-

No volume wars!

4-

No noodling – Please don’t practice or show off that cool riff in between songs. It wastes time and is very distracting

5-

Please tune before every song (silently).

6-

We all love the Dead too. But we can’t do 20 minute solos. Please keep them to a reasonable length.
